The former First Family’s beloved pet has unfortunately passed away and now, both Barack and Michelle Obama took to social media to mourn the adorable Bo. Check out what they had to say about the animal.

Michelle and Barack shared the unfortunate news on their respective IG accounts, dubbing Bo as their ‘best friend.’

Apparently, the dog died after battling cancer and his owners will miss him for a very long time.

Bo has still lived a pretty long life, being born in October of 2008 so that is both comforting for the family and making things even more sad since the dog has been part of their household for so many years!

The former president posted a number of pics featuring the animal and alongside them, he wrote: ‘Today our family lost a true friend and a loyal companion. For over a decade, Bo was a constant and gentle presence in our lives — happy to see us on good days, bad days, and every day in between. He tolerated all of the fuss that came with being at the White House, had a pretty big bark but no bite, loved to jump in the pool in the summer, unflappable with children, lived for the scraps around the dinner table, and had some great hair. He was exactly what we all needed and more than we’d ever expected. We’ll miss him dearly.’

Alongside cute pics of the pup sitting in the President’s chair in the Oval Office, appearing on the red carpet, playing with the family and even visiting patients in hospitals, Michelle wrote:

‘This afternoon was a very difficult one for our family. We said goodbye to our best friend—our dog—after a battle with cancer. On the campaign trail back in 2008, we promised our daughters we would get a puppy after the election. Back then, Bo was supposed to be a companion for the girls. We had no idea just how much he would mean to all of us.’
