If, like me, you're currently sat in nothing but a sports bra and shorts trying to survive the summer heat (TMI?) then brace yourselves, because it's about to get much hotter in here. DJ Khaled has just released his new song, " For Free" and it features some pretty scorching verses from Drizzy. Full of the sort of super hot Drake lyrics that we've come to know and love, the song is packed full of seductive naughtiness and confident bragging. The fourth collaboration between the two artists, "For Free" was premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show and is a sparkling, beats driven anthem made for summertime.
Drake wastes no time on lyrical foreplay with this song either, diving straight into bragging territory with opening lines which playfully rework lines from Too $hort's 2006 classic "Blow The Whistle":
I go on and on Can't understand how I lasted so long I must have the superpowers Last 223 thousand hoursYowza. Drake then continues the rap lyric references with a throwback to Kendrick Lamar's "For Free," stating with confident certainty, "And like your boy from Compton said/ You know this d*ck ain't free!" The song really falls into it's flow after this, with Drake re-evaluating the apparent good lovin' that he's given to ladies over the years:
I got girls that I shoulda made pay for itGot girls that I should made wait for itGot girls that'll cancel a flight back homeStay another day for itYou got attitude on na naAnd your p*ssy on aguaI'm sorry, my p*ssy is on what now? Good lord. Drake's hook then continues these levels of chin stroking, sexual existentialism to ponder, "I always wonder if you ask yourself/ Is it just me?/ Is this sex so good I shouldn't have to f*ck for free?"
On the second verse, Drake goes on to make his intentions a little more crystal clear as he delves into sexual power dynamics and a little more chest beating:
I shouldn't have to f*ck for freeI know you workin' day and night to get a college degreeBet nobody that you've been with even know you a freak, right? You know you only do that with me, right?Yeah, double checkin' on youYou know I never put the pressure on youYou know that you make your own mind upYou know what it was when you signed upIf there's one thing that ladies love to reminded of, it's that they're a freak in the sheets, but like, hush down a bit, Drake. We don't want the whole world to know.
With further lines which make reference to the fact that the object of Drake's affections even lets him "slash on the tour bus" and a mysterious line which states, "Even though you in the hood I'm still pulling up/ Drip, drip, straight to your doorstep/ This is the real thing, can you feel the force yet," I'm not convinced that we're simply listening to him talking about using Google Maps to navigate his lady friend safely home in a rain storm. Though that would be incredibly chivalrous of him.
Of course, DJ Khaled also joins in with such standout lines like "they don't want me to have another anthem/ So I made sure I got another anthem," and the classic song closer, "summer ours," Drake has completely stolen the musical show with his lyrics in this song. Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe that there's a cold shower waiting for me.
