Matheus Nunes' summer move to Manchester City signalled a huge step in his impressive rise in world football.

It's clear that he possesses huge quality on the ball but he recently decided to make a return to a former profession of his, baking.

Nunes used to work in his godfather's bakery in Ericeria, Portugal during the early stages of his career.

Now starring for City, the 25-year-old made the trip to the The Flat Baker in Manchester to get back on the tools for a club video.

Owner Debora spoke exclusively to talkSPORT about his visit in which he had a go at making a batch of pasteis de nata, a classic Portuguese custard pastry.

She explained: "City got in touch with us for this idea for a video to bring Matheus back to his old ages at the bakery.

"We were very honoured, for a small bakery in the heart of Ancoats, you'd never expect such a huge team just to knock at your door, you're like, 'What?!'.

"We were so honoured but so surprised at the same time to have Matheus with us, it was very, very funny."

Speaking more on Nunes' baking history, she added: "He's actually Brazilian but he moved to Portugal and found a job at his family bakery.

"At some point, he said to us that he was into football so much that he couldn't study [at school] anymore. His mother said to him, 'Well Matheus, you've got to make a choice, are you going for football for good?' and then he said, 'Yes, that's my path.'

"Then she said, 'OK, so you're choosing football but you're going to have to do something else'. This is when he started working in the bakery, helping their family selling the baked goods, and he was very talented. I thought he would be very shy but he's got that thing, you know?"

Nunes was successful in his attempts, with the midfielder pulling a nice looking batch out of the oven before serving them to fans.

"Pastel de nata is a typical tiny tart from Portugal where he grew up, we basically had a very funny day to make some pastel de natas with him. He forgot a little bit of his baking skills but it went very well in the end.

"At the end of the day he went in our shop and then he started selling to everyone, a lot of supporters and fans just went crazy when they saw him, it was unbelievable."

Deborah was then asked if she would offer him a job at the bakery should his footballing career fail: "I would have to think about it!

"He would have to have some training first but at this moment close to Christmas we're very busy, we can't provide the training. But, if Matheus is a good boy then we might, yeah."

Nunes has already made six appearances for City, with his biggest test yet coming on Sunday away at Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola's side remain top of the table after seven games, although the Gunners are close behind in 3rd.
