Despite admitting to being a part of the LGBTQ community, Doja Cat found herself in hot water after old tweets resurfaced of her using what was deemed to be homophobic language.

In 2019, Doja Cat reached out to up-and-coming artist JAWNY, and after telling him that she was not a fan of his song "Honeypie," the former couple sparked a relationship. However, although the romance was short-lived, it was enough to take a toll on JAWNY.
Between his and the rapper's breakup, and his career taking off, the "Honeypie" singer experienced a whirlwind of emotions and said:
"Obviously, when you get sucked into that, your whole creative process just changes because you kind of lose sight of yourself."
Following her relationship with JAWNY, during an interview, Doja Cat revealed that she did not see herself having a public relationship again. The rapper added that while she would like to be free with her romances, there were "cons" that came with everything.
