Who remembers that hit single by H “Two” O featuring Platnum, titled “What’s It Gonna Be”; or, maybe you’ll remember Platnum’s very own solo hit “Loveshy (Thinking About You)” which was a cover of Kristine Blond’s 1997 hit “Loveshy”. Well, even though Platnum is still going to this day, as a duo, Michelle Platnum has now dropped her debut single, titled “Energy”, in collaboration with Jazz Purple. It follows up her feature on the PBH & Jack Shizzle track “Call Me” and Platnum’s 2018 single release “Looking For Love” in collaboration with Sweet Female Attitude.

Michelle Platnum, real name Michelle McKenna, rose to fame as being one-third of garage group Platnum. They gained hits with their first two singles, a feature on H “Two” O’s “What’s It Gonna Be” and their own solo release “Loveshy (Thinking About You)”; they went on to release addicting tracks that deserved more recognition and they even gained support from will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas’ producer, DJ Poet. The group went quiet after 2013’s release “Love You Tomorrow”, but started doing club tours in 2016, as a duo consisting of Michelle McKenna and Aaron Evers. Last year, they dropped the addicting “Looking For Love” in collaboration with Sweet Female Attitude (you know that name from the 90’s garage hit “Flowers”). They’re constantly touring up and down the country and they’re totally worth going to see.

Both members of the duo have been working on their solo music alongside work on Platnum, with Michelle McKenna featuring on the unforgettable PBH & Jack Shizzle track “Call Me”. Now, she’s breaking out her solo career under the name Michelle Platnum with this debut single release in collaboration with Jazz Purple, titled “Energy”.

As for Jazz Purple, real name Ola Modupe-Ojo, he is a producer and songwriter who has worked with the likes of Becky Hill, WizKid, and Starley. He’s best known for his work with Bipolar Sunshine on a variety of hit tracks. He is married to British Royal, Maddison Brudenell.

Simply perfection, “Energy” fully allows Michelle Platnum to shine completely. She’s already proving her vocal performance when she’s performing up and down the country as part of Platnum, but this single alone gives her the opportunity to prove that her voice should be heard. R&B vibes easily flow out of her voice as she surrounds herself with club beats and a garage aura. The style of the song reminds us of Cascada whilst her vocals have a Relley.C and Alexandra Burke tone to them. It’s a good debut single and one that certainly makes us press that repeat button.

As for the music video, directed by Karim Karaboue whilst the production was handled by Ghost K Films, links in well with the song itself. Michelle Platnum sings about a love which she never wants to give up and we watch her romancing her on-screen lover. Scenes include her performing with her girls in front of a building, Michelle Platnum cuddling her on-screen lover inside on the stairs, and a sexy pool scene where they hold one enough close as she sings; there’s also a party scene where they have drinks at the mini-bar – which certainly showcases Michelle Platnum’s party lifestyle. It’s great to see this incredible singer-songwriter in her element, in front of the camera, again; and it’s clear she is loving every minute of filming this music video. We can’t wait to see what she does next.

“Energy” is available to download and stream right now. Michelle Platnum can be seen performing as part of the duo Platnum who are gigging at various events up and down the country this year.
