I apologize in advance for the somewhat crappy photos for this story – although paparazzi are getting nice shots of some of the crap surrounding Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s wedding, there are very few “money shots” of the bride and the groom, so I’m just making do. Anyway, according to Us Weekly, Brand and Perry are officially married! They got hitched today in India, near the tiger sanctuary where Russell proposed to Katy. It was a traditional Indian ceremony, apparently.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married Saturday in a traditional Indian ceremony, UsMagazine.com has learned. They exchanged vows in front of 80 or so guests at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan (the same spot where Brand, 35, proposed to Perry – who turns 26 Monday – this past December).
The new Us Weekly reports that Brand planned to ride into the ceremony on a horse, flanked by camels and elephants. Perry was also planning to have a rotating bridal wardrobe from designers Zuhair Murad and Donna Mizani, Us reports.
One thing’s certain: Perry fully embraced Indian tradition for the ceremony. Days before tying the knot, she was spotted wearing a traditional Indian bridal nose ring. It is worn by brides throughout the wedding day, with the groom removing it on the wedding night.
Despite the lavish ceremony, Brand recently told fans at a New York Times “TimesTalks” Q&A in NYC: “We just love each other and we want to get married in front of our friends and family and keep it very normal. It ain’t about selling the pictures, it ain’t about doing no pre-nup, it’s just a normal thing.
“I’m trying to preserve it, to keep it a beautiful thing,” explained Brand, who first met Perry last year on the set of his comedy, Get Him to the Greek, in which Perry had a cameo that was cut. “I think people get the wrong idea on how we want the wedding to play out. Love between two people is the most spectacular, yet ordinary thing in the world.”
The couple’s post-wedding plans? According to the Associated press, they have hired 13 vehicles to take some of their guests on tours of the tiger sanctuary. The newlyweds are staying in a luxury tent at the Aman-i-Khas resort, with guests staying at the nearby Vanyavilas and Sher Bagh resorts, the AP reports.
“They make each other laugh,” a pal tells Us of the newlyweds. “They have a chill chemistry.”
Brand agrees. During his Times talk, he told fans, “The relationship is very important to me. It means growing up. Love between two people is the most spectacular, but ordinary, thing in the world.”

Eh. I mean, they’re in love, and good for them and congratulations on their wedding. I give it a year. CB thinks Katy is going to get pregnant right away though, which could mean the marriage lasts a bit longer? Although I do NOT think Katy will have a baby right away, although I doubt Russell would mind. I get the feeling this whole thing is less about wanting to spend his life with Katy and more about him wanting to see if he would be any good at marriage. Like, it’s a personal challenge for him. We’ll see.
