Move over Gangnam Style, there’s a new YouTube champion!
As of 10th July 2017 See You Again, the phenomenal collaboration between Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, topped the list for YouTube’s most watched videos ever, knocking Psy’s infectious pop hit Gangnam Style down to the number 2 spot after an almost five year reign!
See You Again, YouTube’s most popular video, now has almost 3 billion views – 2,895,724,605 to be exact; and that number is certain to keep rising as fans’ love for the touching tribute will not be fading anytime soon.
The song was written in the wake of actor Paul Walker’s death, when a tragic single-vehicle accident claimed his life in 2013, and was then later used as a tribute to him in the Furious 7 movie soundtrack – the seventh instalment of the Fast and Furious movie franchise.
The list for YouTube’s most watched videos ever, now looks like this:
See You Again is both Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s most successful single to date with 12 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 and two consecutive weeks in the number one spot in the UK singles chart. It was also the best selling song of 2015 worldwide!
In October 2015, the song became the first hip hop song to reach a billion views on YouTube, and in September 2016 became the first hip hop song to reach 2 billion views.
According to calculations, it is thought that See You Again has been streamed for the equivalent of 21,000 years collectively. WOW!
Taking to Twitter, Charlie Puth commented on the song’s success.
For the record, I joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views. Just heard about See You Again…wow.
Now that’s what you call absolutely smashing it!
Congratulations to the immensely talented Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa – You deserve it!
